As many of you will have seen in the Saturday Advertiser, Crafers Primary was successful in winning FUND MY NEIGHBOURHOOD funding for the Crafers Nature Playground! That’s $150,000 to make our much discussed and longed-for new playground a reality.
You will know that there were many wonderful projects proposed throughout the Hills and that the Hills community had the chance to vote for the visions that offered the most value and benefit to us, our families and neighbours.
In spite of worthy competition, we clearly won overwhelming support.
That support was generated by one of the most comprehensive, inclusive, enthusiastic and successful community campaigns one could have imagined. Crafers children, parents and extended families joined with staff to create a groundswell of goodwill and action that radiated far from our little school and made the project posters and handbills a feature of almost every shop counter and window. Could there be a better demonstration of the community spirit and willingness to help that are a hallmark of our school?
Early this week, in searing heat, my own 9yo pestered me to let him letterbox all of our neighbours to remind them to vote for us. He was not dissuaded by the fact that there are no letterboxes in our corner of the Hills. I know of many, many others who had the same determination.
At the heart of the campaign was the work of parent Cindie Smart who, together with Chris Minear, prepared the project paperwork and rallied us all to the call. Thankyou Cindie, Chris and all on behalf of the school for your hard work and inspiration, and thanks to each and every parent, child and teacher who excited, hassled, harried and harangued people’s support at the ballot box.
What a wonderful Christmas present for a 151-year old school and the many children who will enjoy this new school and community resource.
Well done Crafers!
